Yellowstone: Old Faithful

Old Faithful is a geyser that received its named in 1870 from the original Washburn expedition. It is not the biggest or most regular geyser in Yellowstone but it is the park's biggest, regular geyser making it an easy one to view. The viewing can be predicted fairly accurately by park rangers based on the most recent eruption of the geyser. Old Faithful erupts every 35-120 minutes for anywhere from 1 1/2 to 5 minutes. It shoots water and steam into the air for 90-184 feet.

After Old Faithful we headed south out of the park. Along the way, we saw a herd of elk next to the road.
