Yellowstone: Midway Geyser Basin

We stopped at Midway Geyser Basin to view Grand Prismatic Springs.
You can see the bright yellow caused by the high sulphur content in the hot springs.

Much of Yellowstone sits within an ancient volcanic caldera- the remnants of an exploded volcano. In some places, molten rock lies 2-5 miles below the surface of some parts of the park.

This area is best viewed from a hill overlooking the basin. We chose not to walk the trail since it was pretty crowded in this area.
