On Friday evening, we stayed at the Zion River Resort- probably my favorite RV park so far. We woke up on Saturday morning and headed into Zion National Park.
Zion is located in Springdale, Utah. It received its name from Mormon pioneers who named it after the Hebrew promised land because of its beauty. It was established as a national park in 1919. It sits at the intersection of the Mojave desert, Colorado plateau and the Great Basin. The Virgin River flows through the park.
We decided to go horseback riding. Our route took us up to the Court of the Patriarchs. These are three large rock formations named for Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The early settlers of this area named the rocks in an attempt to teach the natives about the Bible.
This is our guide, Diane. She was very knowledgeable about the area and of course, the horses.
Our horses names were:
Caleb- Betty
Ethan- Jasper
Adam- Hatchet
Abigail- The Kid
Me- Snowy
Mike- H.B.
Zion is filled with red sandstone canyons that absorb rainwater and at times, the water seeps out.
There is a trail called Angel's Rim that is fairly dangerous. You can see tiny hikers along the top of the ridge in this picture. (We did not do this hike:)
Adam and Abigail played in the Virgin River while Mike, Caleb and Ethan did the Riverside hike toward the Narrows.
