Day 2 Arachova and Delphi

On Day 2 we headed north into the region of Thebes and Delphi. Thebes is the legendary site of the tale of Oedipus. We stopped for lunch in Arachova which is a ski resort town on the slopes of Mt. Parnassus. Then we stopped at Delphi to view the ancient ruins where the oracle of Delphi prophesied a thousand years before the birth of Christ.

I think these must be red poppies and they are everywhere along the sides of the roads.

We stopped for lunch at a Taverna in Arachova. We had Jackson with us and he helped us order Greek salad, grilled chicken and grilled local cheese. (Think, literally, a wedge of cheese that is grilled.... the boys said that it tasted like pizza cheese.) Also, we ordered potato wedges fried in olive oil- yum.

What is amazing is that these pillars are HUGE and the site is in the middle of the mountains. How did the Greeks get the materials up there to build this?
