The Seasons, Vivaldi and Grandma Moses

We have really enjoyed our artist and composer studies this term. Grandma Moses was our artist and Antonio Vivaldi was our composer. Since a few of the younger need work on calendar skills, we made it into a study of the Four Seasons. Here is a brief description of each and the resources that we used....

Grandma Moses (Anna Mary Robertson) 1860-1961
A self-taught folk painter who didn't even begin to paint until after her husband's death- she was 67 years young! Many of her works are seasonal landscapes that focus on rural life.
We looked at several examples of her paintings and also read The Year with Grandma Moses and also a The Life and Work of Grandma Moses, a children's biography. Check this website for more resources.

Antonio Vivaldi was a Venetian composer of the early 18th century. He was also a violinist and The Four Seasons, which is a series of violin concerti, is his best known work. We read a book called I, Vivaldi and also listened to a series of radio programs about Vivaldi at Classics for Kids.
