Caldecott Books

We picked up this fabulous poster from the reference desk in the children's section of our local library. It has all of the Caldecott books from 1938-2009. We are currently working our way through all of the books and putting stickers on them as we read them. For those who may not know the Caldecott award is given to one picture book each year in children's literature and the Newberry Medal is awarded to the best children's chapter book. Our library has a special shelf that features Newberry and Caldecott winners so that makes it easy to find them and we can also request them online. Check out a list of Caldecott Winners here.
My favorite Caldecott book so far (we had already read 26 and now we have read about 5 more- there are a total of 72) is Three Pigs by David Weisner. (BTW, he has won the Caldecott THREE times!). This book starts like a story that we all know and then takes you on a totally new adventure. It was a fun read!
