Aullwood Gardens

So yesterday was a gorgeous day and we had to head outside. We chose Aullwood Garden (Stillwater Prairie was our other choice- we'll head there next.....). So, here are some photos of our picnic, hike, playing by the Stillwater River and also a drawing by Ethan.

Eranthis (Winter aconite)
This yellow perennial is one of the first to appear in Spring. Winter aconite is frost tolerant and can even survive in case of a late snowfall. It grows along forest floor (10-15 cm tall) and takes advantage of the sun available before the leaves come out and then dies out later in the Spring when the canopy is more dense.
