These are the days...: Homeschool 2016-2017

This year, Abigail and I have the whole morning to ourselves and we have a lot of fun things planned. Our schedule varies depending on when she wakes up and what we have going on that day. We don't have much in the afternoons this year until 2:30 so if she needs to sleep in, I let her. Generally, we start with Bible at breakfast. We are reading the four gospels this year and then we also work on a scripture verse memorization and a Christian biography. Then we break and she goes and gets dressed and does morning chores. She practices both her piano and her cello. She is working on Teaching Textbooks Math 7 (we had to take a break and review multiplication facts) and also Spelling Workout for weekly lists. Spelling has always been challenging for her but this year seems to be going better and I think it more of a maturity things than finding the perfect textbook. We are adding in Rosetta Stone Spanish and also a new science curriculum from Exploration Education. The science has had a slow start as we also ordered a microscope and she spent the first few weeks of school obsessed with it. For History, we are doing American Girl Unit Studies- one each month and we started with Kaya. For writing, we vary the process with copywork and dictation (Bravewriter), journal writing and creative projects. She is continuing with Karate and art lessons.

Books for the year: Tanglewood Tales, American Tall Tales, Just So Stories, The Little Princess, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Borrowers, Little Men, Black Beauty, Heidi, The Princess and the Goblin, Oliver Twist and also Hollling C. Holling books that she listened to when her brothers read them: Paddle to the Sea, Seabird, Minn of the Mississippi and Tree in the Trail. We also listen to Bulfinch's Mythology on librivox at lunch and we are adding Halliburton's Book of Marvels when it gets here.
