Mount Nebo, Mosaics, Madaba and the Bedouin Camp

Next, we headed to Mount Nebo. 

Moses ascended Mount Nebo where God showed him the promised land and also told him he would not enter in. Mount Nebo gives a spectacular view of the whole Jordan River Valley and you can even see Jerusalem on a clear day.

Next on our way into Madaba, we stopped at a mosaic workshop for some shopping opportunities. Madaba is known for its Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics especially a Byzantine era mosaic floor that shows a map of the Holy Land.

This mosaic is on the floor of the Byzantine church of St. George. It shows the Middle East as it was known in the 6th century.

This is Kunafa, a Jordanian dessert made of goat cheese, semolina, sugar, pistachios and cashews.

After Madaba, we traveled south for about 3 hours until we reached out Bedouin camp near Petra. This was our first view:

They served us dinner when we arrived.
