We started our morning with a drive along the Yellowstone River. We saw herds of bison in Hayden Valley. The herds roam where they want to and traffic was stopped several times because of animals on the road.
Our first stop was at Mud Volcano- a collection of hot springs and bubbling mud pits.
Yellowstone contains the highest concentration of hydrothermal activity anywhere on the earth. This is caused by a magma chamber underneath the ground.
This is Dragon Mouth Springs named because it is a small cave with smoke billowing out and looks like it could be a dragon's lair.
Hydrogen sulfide gas causes both the yellow color found throughout the park (Yellowstone) and also the rotten egg smell. Ethan was not fond of the odor.

The plant life was beautiful around the hot springs.
