These are the days...: Books We Have Read this Term....

Oh, our poor neglected blog! Time to affirm myself by documenting what we were able to accomplish this term. Here is a list of books we read:

The Warden and the Wolf King- final book of The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson (still finishing this up)
The Hero and the Crown- by Robyn McKinley (heroine who fights evil mages and black dragons!)
Little Women- by Louisa May Alcott (LOVE. This book affected me greatly)

Tales, Myths, Legends and More
Viking Tales by Jennie Hall (especially those about Harald of Norway)
The Story of King Arthur and His Knights by Howard Pyle (listening to this in the car and will continue as we work on projects through Christmas)
Beowulf- we used the version by Michael Morpurgo
The Song of Roland- one of the Legends of Charlemagne
Norse Myths-various authors

Our Island Story- by H.E. Marshall (ongoing....we listen to this on librivox.org while we eat lunch. Abigail begs for these stories but I am trying to coordinate them with our study of medieval history so we are working through slowly)
Pilgrim's Progress- by John Bunyan (ongoing. I have a wonderful audio dramatization)

The Giver- by Lois Lowry (hope to watch the movie with him over the holidays)
Crispin- by Avi
The Call of the Wild- by Jack London (I have a movie version of this from the library)
Famous Men of the Middle Ages- by John Haaren (making a book to go along with these readings)

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh- by Robert O'Brien (started but did not finish since he already knew the plot and he didn't catch the spark...)
The Son of Charlemagne- by Barbara Willard

Farmer Boy- by Laura Ingalls Wilder (smaller chapter book version)
Viking Adventure- by Clyde Robert Bulla (love his books and they are the perfect level for Abby Jane...)
