Thought

Be at war with your vices,
At peace with your neighbors,
And may every New Year find you a better man.

-Benjamin Franklin

The thought struck me upon reading this quote that Satan wants us to do just the opposite. He wants us to make excuses for our own vices and nitpick our neighbor with our critical thoughts and opinions. If we do this for an extended period of time, we are guaranteed not to experience growth or become better men and women (more Christ-like).
This week Caleb was telling us an ecological concept that was covered in his science lecture: limiting factors. These are present in ecosystem and limit the growth of a particular species. Some examples are: too many predators, too few prey, loss of habitat, pollution. This made me start to think about my own growth- spiritual, intellectual, emotional. What are my own limiting factors? The few things that pop into my mind are: distractibility, critical thought patterns, procrastination, laziness. VICES.
