She came down for our morning time a tad overdressed but with a bright smile. I asked, "Aren't you a little dressed up for home school?" She said, "But Mommy! Tonight is my date with Daddy!" And so went the rest of the day. "How many hours until my date with Daddy?" "When will Daddy be home from work?" "How many minutes until Daddy gets back from baseball practice?" When he finally did get home and scarfed down some dinner, I could tell that it had been a long day and he was tired. But, he put on a fresh change of clothes and went on a date with his little girl. She had carefully picked out a special place to get ice cream and they drove to the levy to swing. But it was cold and so back to the car they went. As they drove out in the country, he asked her what she wanted to do. She said, "Maybe you could pull over somehwere and I could get in the front seat and we could just talk." They found a long driveway and pulled in to watch the sunset. She sat in the front seat and told her daddy about her day and the books that she was reading. They watched the sunset and then they came home. When I asked him how it went, he replied, "She is something else!" When I asked her what her favorite part of the date was, she thought for a moment and said, "The ice cream or the sunset....it's a tie!"
