Kidnapped!

Ethan just finished reading Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson. Here is a brief summary of the plot:

Kidnapped is the story of a boy named David Balfour. He gets kidnapped and sold on a ship by his Uncle Ebeneezer. On the ship he meets Alan Breck who is Scottish Highlander Outlaw. He is a Jacobite which the king, James, to come back from exile in France. David helps Breck fight the crew but then he gets tossed overboard and washed up on shore. Then David meets the Red Fox who gets shot and Davy is supected of being involved. He then runs into Alan and they travel across Scotland so that Davy can claim his inheritance from his uncle and Alan can escape to France.

Then we watched a Masterpiece Theatre version of Kidnapped.

Differences between the book and movie:

1. There are bounty hunters chasing them in the movie.

2. The ship gets blown up in the movie.

3. There are some different characters in the movie.

4. In the movie, Davy rescues Alan from the British at the end.

Things we learned about Scotland:

1. Tartan plaid was the symbol of the Scottish highlands.

2. They play bagpipes in Scotland.

3. Scotland is very mountainous and beautiful.

Favorite Parts or Character:

Adam- when the bounty hunters are chasing them.

Ethan- the fight on the ship and then the explosion.

Caleb- favorite character was Alan Breck.

Mom- when Davy rescued Alan at the end.
