Artist Study Term 1- Peter Paul Rubens

This past term, we enjoyed the artwork of Peter Paul Rubens. Here is what we wrote together about him: (We did it together as a lesson about how to do research and then write the information in your own words....)

Peter Paul Rubens lived in the seventeenth century (1577-1640) and was a painter of the Baroque style. He was Flemish which meant that he lived in the Netherlands. His paintings are known for their movement, color and also their historical subjects like David and Goliath, Daniel in the Lion's Den and St. George and the Dragon.

Our artist study is very laid back. I choose a new painting every two weeks and save it as the background on our computer. We look at it and discuss what we see. Do we know the story behind it? What do we notice about the painting- color, feeling, movement, composition, etc..
What do we like/not like about the painting?

I order each of the boys their own 4x6 copy of each painting that we study. We are keeping these in a binder with special photo pages so that we can look back at our favorites in the future.
