The Underground Railroad

As we continue our study of American History we have come to the topic of the Underground Railroad which we have been studying the past few weeks. Ohio is rich in the history of the Underground Railroad. There is the Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati and we are even researching a possible stop on the Underground Railroad right here in our hometown! Of course, we have read plenty of books. Here are a few if you are interested:
Follow the Drinking Gourd by Jeanette Winter
Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt by Deborah Hopkinson
The Secret to Freedom by Marcia Vaughn
Minty: A Story of Young Harriet Tubman by Alan Schroeder
The Patchwork Path by Bettye Stroud (my favorite)

Also, National Geographic has a simulation about the Underground Railroad. Check it out here.
And Classics for Kids has a collection of Freedom Music. (Thanks, Michele)
